Challenges for the Christian Medical Worker/Missionary
For over 20 years he served on the staff of a missionary hospital in Kenya. Now he runs one of the world’s largest associations of doctors, nurses, PAs and Dentists in the world. Though their focus remains on serving the world’s population in Jesus’ name, more and more challenges are facing medical personnel in the field. Hear his story and the story of this important association this weekend on Missions Today!
“This was the mid 90s . We were in the heart of the AIDS epidemic in Kenya. My assistant opened the chart and it contained a lab result I had never seen. The pink slip was positive for this patient. I didn’t know at that time whether or not I was susceptible to get it from this patient. Because I didn’t have the answer, it was as though I had just exposed myself and my family to AIDS. I finished the autopsy, went home and said to my wife, ‘Honey I can’t believe this happened. I had to do that autopsy and now I may have AIDS. I wonder how long would it take for us to get tickets to go home because I just don’t want to be here anymore.’ She said, ‘Honey, God‘s got this. He’s going to take care of you. Let’s pray.’ Even after we prayed, I was still so frustrated. Just then the phone rang.”
